It is hard to believe that this last week marks the 5th Express the Moment Retreat. I remember this event simply being a dream that I thought would never become a reality. With each event, I am reminded that DREAMS really do come true!
As I think about the past five events, my mind turns to all of the amazing ladies that have attended each event. This last week, I counted five of the women that have attended all five events. The rest of the events have been filled with women who have been to 3-4 of them or are there for the first time. I am always amazed with how each group of ladies connect with each other and leave the event as life long friends!

I absolutely love each of these group photos. Each reminds me of that particular event and just how amazing each and every one of these ladies are. Each of us have our own story to tell. We all come from different backgrounds. We come together as Sisters and then return home to our individual lives. There is a very sacred bond between each of these ladies.
After each retreat I am asked by co-workers, friends and neighbors about the event and I find it hard to describe just how amazing it is!
This event is the ultimate Scrapbooking Retreat. This event includes lodging in the most beautiful home located in Saratoga Springs, Utah right along Utah Lake. My staff spends hours in the kitchen creating the most delicious meals for each day. My Sister Jen is the head chef and prefers me to NOT give my input when it comes to the cooking. She is much better at it then I am! Guests are spoiled with endless product and goodies including handmade items and little surprises from their assigned secret sister.
We spend countless hours in the theater room laughing so hard our stomachs hurt. Our Retreat Motto is "What happens in the theater room... stays in the theater room" and it couldn't be more true! It is a safe place where ladies can be their selves and know that NOTHING leaves that room.
Sadly the week comes to an end. No matter how hard we tell ourselves we are not going to cry... we do. We are sad to leave our Soul Sista's but know that each of us always carry each other in our hearts.
To say that I am grateful would be an understatement. Set aside the amazing business opportunity this has become for myself and my family... non of that matters... I continue to this event because it has become my saving grace. It seems like each time this event draws near it is at the EXACT time that I need a bit of an escape from working full time... (yes I have a full time job) .. escape from being a Momma... a Wife... my church responsibilities... just life. These events save me and I return ready to face the daily demands of life all over again.
I am looking forward to many more amazing RETREATS! We will continue to hold this event in Saratoga Springs but am also expanding to a Fall Retreat here in Idaho Falls. These Retreats are in addition to regular Scrapbook Crops my company offers twice a year. Some might say I am crazy but I love every minute of it!

It is officially summer which means long, hot days and cool, relaxed nights here in Idaho. Every summer, I look forward to family bbqs which always include my Mothers Potato Salad. I have been craving this salad for weeks and last night I finally made it!
My Mother was a really good cook. She didn't make over the top fancy meals. She made down to earth, feeding a family of six children, type of meals. Over the years, she perfected several family favorites. NOBODY could make a turkey like my Mother, or cook a Sunday roast, potato or egg salad, sweet and sour chicken, spaghetti salad, stuffed bell peppers, or meatloaf just to name a few.
I share this recipe in honor of her and invite you to add it to your family favorites this summer!
This Recipe is typed the EXACT way my Mother typed it a couple of years before her death. She was working on creating a family cook book for each of her girls.
We all treasure her recipes!
There is a trick to making good potato salad. Don’t peel the potatoes or cut them before you cook them. Cook them whole and do not overcook them! They should not fall apart when you stick a fork in them. The potatoes should be somewhat firm. Not soft like you would cook for mashed potatoes.
Wash about 10 potatoes. Leave the skin on. Do not cut up.
Over with warm water. Add salt. Let boil until fork easily goes into the potato. When cooked, drain water and let potatoes cool. When cool, peel and cut into approx. 1” squares.
Boil 8-12 eggs (depends on how much egg you like) for about 15 mins. Don’t forget to add salt to the water or your eggs will be hard to peel. Drain hot water and cover with cold water until they are cool to the touch, Peek and chop eggs into small pieces. Add to potatoes.
Chop up several good dill pickles. Chop about half of a large onion. Green onions will work or a red onion. Chop about 4-5 celery stalks. Add to potatoes.
Add enough mayo to coat everything. Be careful not to add to much. Soggy potato salad is gross! Add about ¼ cup brown spicy mustard, 1/8 cup of horseradish, 3 tablespoons of garlic salt, 5-8 tablespoons of vegetable supreme seasonin, salt and pepper to taste, 3-4 tablespoons lemon juice.
Mix everything together and get a couple of people to taste test for you. Adjust seasoning if you need to. Remember that potato salad won’t taste good unit it is cold so allow at least 3 hours to chill.
Love you Mom..... oh how I miss you!
( Each ETM Retreat is held at THIS home in Saratoga Springs, Utah)
I am so excited to share with you a few details about the Express the Moment Spring 2014 Retreat that just took place two weeks ago. As I look through photos from the event, I keep thinking to myself how grateful I am. I am grateful for all of the ladies who supported this event. I am grateful to the families of each of the attendees and the sacrifices they made so that MOM could attend. I am grateful for the amazing business opportunity this event has become. I am grateful for each one of the attendees who arrive as friends but leave as family. Each one of them will forever be my soul sister!
It is impossible to express in words exactly all that happens at retreat. It is truly magical. It is a warm, loving, safe place. YOU ARE LOVED. You can be YOU. We love and accept our guests for who they are and truly want them to feel at home!
Guests arrive on Wednesday afternoon and are immeidiately greeted with a BIG hug, smiles and laughter! ETM Staff members escort them to their assigned rooms where they immeidately find Scrapbook goodies waiting for them. We take time to settle each guest then enjoy a fabulous dinner that ETM Staff has prepared. Each meal is home made and boy do we enjoy amazing food through out the week!
Guests are treated to hand made goodies and Scrapbooking treats at each meal. You never know what you are going to find on your dinner plate!
We spend a lot of time in the Theatre Room laughing, crying, playing games, relaxing. The ETM Retreat joke is that "What happens in the theatre room STAYS in the theatre room" and we mean it! Ladies are truly able to relax, be them selves and just have fun!
We spend hours and hours in this room creating until the wee hours of the night. Gals are treated to MORE Scrapbooking goodies while they work. We laugh and laugh while we Scrap and Scrap!
This Spring we had the opportunity to take a field trip to American Crafts! We were given an exclusive tour of their facility and treated to fun products after our tour!
The stories we could tell about the car rides while on field trips!
We also met reps from Bo Bunny Press that spoiled us with more goodies! Fall attendees will enjoy a field trip to their facility!
Forever friendships are made. Often I see gals finding a spot in the house to just sit and talk. The home sits along Utah Lake so you can even take a walk down to the docks, you can take a NAP, sleep in, stay up late, you can actually take a shower withhout being bothered by little ones. It is HEAVEN!
Did I mention that we laugh until we cry? Our stomachs hurt by the end of the day from laughing so much!
On our last night, we enjoy a PHOTO SHOOT complete with props!
ETM spoiles our guests with oodles of product! Guests receive goodies each night before bed, at each meal, they find goodies on their work talbes, they are given product in the theatre room OR just for giving a staff member a smile! PLUS! Each attendeed is spoiled by their Secret Sister through out the week so you really feel like you are at the ultimate girls camp!

As many of you know, my twin boys are serving Missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Their service has brought many blessings to our family AND many amazing experiences!
I am often asked how I am preserving the memories of their two years of service. What "method" of Scrapbooking am I using. I decided it is finally time for me to create a bit of a tutorial and walk you through my system. Keep in mind that this is what I have found has worked for me. There are several options!
1. A key factor in this entire process is organizing your photos! Your missionaries will be sending home memory cards, adding them to online storage sites, emailing them, etc. It is important to create a system. It is very easy to end up with photos in several places and even more easy to loose track of the dates of the photos, places, etc. Here is a screen shot of my computer. You can see that I have created a file folder for each of my boys. To the left you see a folder named Elder Teagan Rose and one named Elder Michael Rose. Then if you open up each of the folders you will see they both look similar to what you see on the right of the screen. I have created folders for each event. For example, I have a folder for their farewell, for their MTC experience. I have then created folders for each area they have served in. It is very important to discipline yourself to separate the photos into folders. It will make the process much easier when you are ready to print. Trust me!
2. The next key factor is to actually PRINT your photos. We live in a digital world and it is very easy to keep photos on phones, within emails and on our computers. Once you have organized your photos within files (see other photo) come up with a system for printing them. I print each time I receive a memory card. It is easy for me to remember what I have from that card and it also breaks up the expense of printing so many photos. I personally print through Shutterfly.
3. Once you receive the printed photos, again take time to organize them! I have used the box the photos come in. I would not use this for long time storage of loose photos, but I know I will be adding them to my book soon so I am not worried about it. I take each photo and organzie them in order the best I can. You might need to write your Missionary to clarify on order, etc.
4. Another quick tip is that most photo processing companies have apps. As I mentioned, I use Shutterfly to print my photos. I created my account online. I can upload to my account photos from my computer OR my app connects to my account and I can upload and order prints stored on my smartphone. Pretty easy! (Note: I do not work for Shutterfly. I am just a happy customer that finds their service easy to use. I am sure there are other great companies!)
5. I save each hand written letter, along with the envelope. I print each "main" email sent. When my boys email each week, I am able to respond to them several times. They give me more details and answer Mom questions. I do not print those messages. I only print their main email that they write for me to forward to friends and family. Sometimes these end up being two pages.
6. I then add each email and each hand written letter to sheet protectors. You can order sheet protectors online through me or most office supply stores have them. If an email is two pages, I do not flip the second side so that it is showing. I simply slide both pages into the protector then on the back side is a new letter. I keep these organized by date. If it is a handwritten letter, the envelope is kept towards the back of the letter. Save the envelopes! Missionaries are not always good about dating their letters. This will help you in the future with a time line!
7. I store the letters and emails is this black leather 8.5 x 11 album by We R Memory Keepers. Note: I purchase the black since we have Elders serving, however other color choices are available for Sisters. These albums are high quality and have reinforced metal edges. I will add the their name and dates on the side label. I have found that I can fit an entire years worth of email and letters in one book. I project having two of these albums per Missionary upon their return.
8. The next step in my process was choosing a 12x12 album to store their photos. I chose this black one by Project Life for my Son serving in Iowa, and a red leather one by We R Memory Keepers for my son serving in Canada. Note: Project Life does have a pink version for Sisters. There are many album choices!
10. The next step in my process is I am using divided sheet protectors. There are several options available. I personally use Project Life and We R Memory Keepers protectors. I find they have the most options and are of the quality I want. Prices vary on the size pkgs you purchase.
11. In addition to divided sheet protectors, you can also purchase 12x12 pocket pages. I use these to store such things as their initial mission booklet, the sacrament program from their farewell, plane tickets, etc.
12.I don't have time to create a traditional 12x12 layout for every photo my boys send home. I have chosen to use journal cards by Project Life and by We R Memory Keepers. Both of these sets come in both Elder and Sister themes. There are 4x6 card and 3x4 cards. These journal cards are the exact sizes that match the divided sheet protector sizes.
13. The next step is the fun part. ( I will also post pics of how I organize my photos, print, etc) Taking your divided sheet protectors and journal cards, I simply add my photos to the pages and insert a card. You will find there is a bit a trick to this as you realize what size photos you have, how many you have of one certain "event" and then what cards you decided to use.
14. Here is another example of a completed page. These photos are from the MTC. You can see the divided sheet protector I used. I ended up cutting down two of the photos to fit in the 3x4 opening then filled in the other openings with journal cards. My Son will then hand journal on these cards filing in the details of the photos. (Note: he doesn't know he is doing this yet, but he will!)
NOW... here is the fun part!

I am embarrassed that it has been so long since I have updated this blog. To say my life has been insane the past several months would be an understatement! I know you are checking the blog the daily for updates and are loosing sleep over my failure to update, right? Ha! Ha!
I am so excited to share with you a few highlights from the ETM Fall Retreat that was held October 9-12 in Saratoga Springs, Utah. This was the second retreat we held this year. I couldn't imagine that a second retreat could be any better then the first, but you know what? It was! I can't stop thinking about it!
We are fortunate to be able to hold Retreat at THIS amazing home in Saratoga Springs, Ut. The home owner, Suanna, has become one of my dearest friends. I could never say enough good things about her and am so grateful to her for being such a gracious host to this event!
The home is close to 10,000 square feet and includes enough bedrooms for guests to enjoy comfortable sleeping arrangements. The home also includes a large family room that we convert to our Scrap area, a theatre room, a game room, kitchens on each leval of the home and more! Yeah.. we know how to Scrap in style!
ETM guests are spoiled during this event. All meals are provided. We joke with our guests that they are not allowed in the kitchen! No worrying about preparing your own meal, or cleaning the kitchen afterwords. The amazing ETM staff has that covered!
ETM guests receive oodles and oodles of goodies through out the event. Goodies are left at each meal, they find treats on their beds at night, product is left in the scrap area and class kits are given each day!
Our guests enjoyed hours and hours of Scrap time. They were able to spread out their supplies and just leave them at the tables for three days coming back to their projects and not worrying about cleaning up each night. Scrapbook heaven!
We spend a lot of time in the theatre room laughing and sharing WAY to much information about each other. I love that ladies feel like they can be thereselves and truly relax. The only rule at retreat is that what is shared in the theatre room STAYS in the theatre room. :-)
One of my favorite memories from the Fall Retreat was our field trip up to Provo Canyon. We laughed and laughed in the car ride to and from the canyon, enjoyed a picnic lunch and most of all were in awe of the beautiful fall colors in the canyon!
While in the canyon, guests were also treated to official pictures of themselves. We all love taking photos of our families but very rarely are we behind the camera so I decided it was time for each of them to have beautiful photos of themselves!
We also had a photography lesson!
These retreats are a dream come true for me. I am so grateful for all of those who have supported the event. I still can't believe that we have held two this year and the Spring 2014 event is already sold out. It's crazy! I love every minute of the event and feel so blessed to be surrounded by such amazing women!
Stay tuned becuase many more AMAZING ETM Retreats are on the way!
If you are interested in more information about this exclusive event, please contact ETM!
Where in the heck did the month of June go? Geesh! It seems like we were counting down until June. Waiting and waiting for school to end then BAM it was here and gone.
I had a complete brain freeze in June and didn't update the ETM blog that month. SO... let's start July off right with an update!
As always, ETM is busy, busy, busy. Busy filling online orders. Busy working with the Monthly Product Kit. Busy planning events!
I am so excited to share with you this months product kit. I have to admit that July is my favorite month of the summer. I LOVE celebrating the 4th. I love the long, lazy, summer days. I LOVE spending time with my family. I have even grown to love camping. ( Trailers will do that do ya)
This months kit is filled with product that offer so much variety. You will be able to create projects documenting all of those fun summer activities. The kit features traditional July colors, but don't let that fool ya. All of the quotes, tags, titles and stickers are perfect for any occasion giving you many options!
Take a look at these adorable layouts and cards created by ETM design team member Nancy Keller. Nancy is the queen of thinking out side of the box. I LOVE each of these projects. Have fun duplicating them!
Three adorable layout ideas using this months kit!
The above card is my favorite!
Stay tuned becuase I still need to post project ideas created by ETM design team member Becki Adams. July is here with a BANG and we are here to inspire you!
Love this kit? Check it out HERE
First and foremost, I want to preface this post by extending love and prayers to those in Moore, Ok and surrounding areas. Our thoughts and prayers are with those so tragically affected by these tornatoes. In times like these I feel so helpless while living here in little 'ol Idaho but strongly believe in the power of prayer. May we all just pray.
WARNING: This blog post might be a bit long! My heart is full. My brain is on overdrive as I gather all of my thoughts and reflect on the amazing week I had last week. I am so excited to share with each of you a few details about the ETM Retreat AND share with you details about future retreats!
This month, ETM celebrated 13 years of being in business. I feel like I have been there, done that when it comes to this industry. I have operated a on line store, a brick and motar retail store all while organizing the largest Scrapbook Expo within the state of Expo and in conjunction with that Expo taught hundreds of students a variety of scrapbooking classes.
If I had a dollar for each time I have been asked if I would organize a retreat over the past 13 years, I would sitting on a beach somewhere soaking up the sun!
It has always been a dream of mine to hold a retreat, but I knew in my mind that the timing wasn't right and that if I was going to hold a retreat it would need to be done right. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist that way. I honestly didn't have a location that felt right to me. That changed last fall.
To make a long story short, my family had the opportunity to stay in this home (see above) last summer for our annual family reunion. My brother in law made contact with the owners of the home through his work and they graciously opened their home to us for a weekend. This home is amazing! The entire stay I kept thinking to myself how this home would be the PERFECT location for an ETM retreat. My husband kept telling me to shut the brain down. I wasn't going for it. :-)
I was able to contact the home owner (who lives in Texas) to ask her about my crazy idea and what she thought about us holding our first retreat in her home. Her response was "Heck ya! On one condition... I am coming!".
Sooooo, last fall we started to plan the first ETM Retreat to be held May of 2013!!!
Right after I confirmed the dates and knew we were set to go, ETM held our fall crop. I casually mentioned the retreat at that crop and was sold out for this first retreat with in a week. The response was "It's about time!".
Fast forward several crazy busy months. The holidays arrived,I took a trip to Georgia, my husband and I took a cruise, my son was preparing to leave for a LDS Mission, his twin brother started college that same week. Two ETM crops within that time, all while planning this retreat.
A lot of preparation and planning went in to this retreat. I spent months planning the colors and theme of the event. I shopped for table settings and decor. I knew I wanted guests to feel comfortable and at home but yet maintain an classy and elegant feeling through out.
I wanted the guests to have a touch of home with them while at retreat so we asked guests to send pictures of them and their families so we could display them that week.
Starting with our first meal, guests would be called to eat only to find goodies on their plates, in their cups and on thier chairs. We are so grateful for our wonderful sponsors who spoiled our guests not only with surprises during each meal but also before bed and during classes.
Not only did we have fun leaving them goodies before each meal, we certainly had fun cooking and preparing the meals! Guests downstairs could hear us rolling with laughter in the kitchen. If they only knew. Wink!
After dinner we asked our guests to met in the theater room (yes a theater room) for our official welcome night and get to know you games. We have all taken an oath that what was said in the theater room, stays in the theater room so I won't elaborate but just know that I have not laughed that hard for a long time. My stomach hurt from laughing to hard!
Soon after our welcome night, gals started to get to work. Open crop tables were provided. Gals changed into their comfy sweats and pjs and just scrapbooked until the late hours of the night. They dind't have to worry about cleaning up their supplies each night. They just spread out and got down to business!
A few gals took a break from hours and hours of working to enjoy some fresh air and a walk down to the lake. Note: My sister is crazy and she attacked me. Ha!
A few gals even enjoyed a field trip to a local lavendar field to learn more about lavendar and purchase some goodies. We learned a lot about lavendar this week. Our wonderful host Suanna shared with us her knowledge of the plant and treated us to little goodies created from her homegrown plants right from the home we stayed in!
We enjoyed quiet mornings.
We would Scrapbook. Hours and hours and hours of just working on projects. Getting caught up on projects. Organzing photos. Creating entire albums. No kids. No laundry. No worrying about preparing dinner. Just Scrapbooking!
We spoiled guests with lots of goodies and four class kits complete with all supplies and instructions to complete the class.
We were amazed at just how many projects gals were able to complete. Retreat attendee Linda Hansen sent the above photo of all of her finished projects for the week. WOWSERS!
By the end of the week, life long friendships had been made. Saturday morning after breakfast we gathered in the living room and revealed to each other who our secret sisters were. We laughed and cried then had to say our goodbyes. For now.
I could never express in words how grateful I am for the opportunity to spend this week with these ladies. I will forever hold each of them close to my heart. This was the first ETM Retreat and it was just special. There was love, peace, comfort and a lot of fun. Well worth the wait!
ETM will hold this retreat this retreat two times a year with dates being in May and October. We hope that offering the event at these times will give you options on attending.
